PRINT EDITIONS    /   Sizes and Characteristics
A "Limited Edition" means just that. It is produced in one size, and in one quantity ranging from 550 to 950 prints plus the associated artist's proofs. When the edition is sold out, there will be no more available except on the secondary market. That is essentially the guarantee that Nancy makes to her collectiors when she hand-signs each print. The same holds true for the artist's proofs. In addition to Nancy's signature, each print is titled and numbered in the white border below the print image.

An "Open Edition" is a print edition that is NOT numbered or restricted in any way. The publisher reserves the right to reprint the edition in the future, even though it may not. The number of prints in a Stonington open edition varies, but is ususally betwseen 1500 and 3000. With few exceptions, the prints are not signed or titled. Generally, A/P's are not set aside either. The lower price of open edition prints reflects the unrestriced edition size.

ARTIST'S   PROOFS   OF   SOLD   OUT   PRINTS
With every edition printed, a small number of prints is set aside to be signed and numbered as artist's proofs. The prints are exactly the same as those in the numbered edition, but are usually made available only after the numbered edition has sold out. The number of proofs varies from 15 to 50 and generally reflects about 5% of the numbered edition size. Each of the proofs is pencil signed the same way as in: A/P (1 of 30) or A/P (1 of 15), along with the print title and Nancy's signature. A/P prices are generally 3 to 4 times higher than the original issue price of the print.

SOLD OUT PRINTS
When the numbered prints in an edition are gone, the edition is considered sold out. Artist's proofs may or may not be available of a particular image.
